Most Georgian universities are going to write off student debts
A huge relief came to the students who were experiencing financial problems due to tuition arrears. The great news was announced by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, who decided to hold an action to write off debts to students of Georgian universities. This is the solution of financial issues for about thirty thousand students, both public and private universities.
The rectors of Georgia's leading universities welcomed this momentous decision with joy. Together with the state, they supported the measure of Irakli Garibashvili and signed a memorandum to cancel student debts. However, there were two private universities that did not agree to support the action - the Free University and the Agrarian University.
In these universities, according to the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, about a thousand students have been suspended for non-payment of tuition. The transparency of the reasons for the refusal of these universities raises some questions.
The total amount of the issue is about forty million lari, or fifteen million dollars. Now the life of students will become a little easier, and they will be able to fully focus on their education again.
