Thanks to the possibility of direct purchases, citizens and the state will be able to save up to 40% of the cost of medicines. New government programs will allow even more people to receive the necessary medicines.

The Georgian authorities have been actively working towards the availability of medicines since 2022. The introduction of simplified procedures for the import of inexpensive drugs from Turkey and the maximum price level for more than 7 thousand types of medicines has helped reduce the cost of many drugs needed for chronic treatment or emergency care.

Specific measures to improve access to medicines are already planned for 2024. A new component designed for early detection of diseases, including cancer, will be introduced within the framework of the universal health care program. This component provides for expensive X-ray examinations for patients who need to confirm a cancer diagnosis, as well as for the correct determination of treatment methods.

The possibility of direct purchases also contributes to reducing drug costs by up to 40%. This is especially true for chemotherapy and other expensive drugs, the Deputy minister noted.

From January 1, the state will be able to purchase pharmaceutical products at much lower prices, conducting direct negotiations with the manufacturer or the owner of the trade license. This will significantly expand access to innovative medicines, and their purchase will be possible under special conditions.
