The family shrine bearing the name Varamiantkari stands on the rise above Velistsikhe, away from the residential streets. The word kari in such names means gate, while the first part points to the family the place belongs to.
Velistsikhe is one of the larger villages of Gurjaani Municipality and is known for winemaking: wine houses and a marani museum with qvevri and old presses operate here. The village lies on the southern side of the Alazani valley at about four hundred metres. A folk theatre has worked in Velistsikhe since the end of the century before last.
Modest clothing and quiet behaviour are expected. The site remains part of the everyday life of the area, and that deserves respect.
