The former Palace of Pioneers (abandoned) in Chiatura is one of the remarkable places that attracts the interest of tourists and researchers of city ruins. Construction of the building was carried out in the first half of the 1960s under the leadership of the famous Georgian architect Konstantin Chkheidze. Similar buildings exist only in three cities of Georgia: Chiatura, Tkibuli and Tkvarcheli. In the past, scientific and artistic classes were held here, and there was an assembly hall and a museum. The Palace of Pioneers operated until 2007, after which the building was abandoned.
Over time, the building was looted and began to collapse due to lack of repairs. In 2014, the authorities began dismantling the structures, but this process was stopped by civil activists. At present, only a small part of the building can be viewed, including part of the columns, the vestibule and part of the assembly hall. The amphitheater-shaped staircase is especially impressive.
The building is in extremely poor condition, which makes it dangerous to visit inside. A risky hike through the ruins is not recommended - it is better to limit yourself to inspecting the outer part. This place is of interest to lovers of history, architecture and urban exploration, as well as for those who want to see part of the cultural heritage of the city of Chiatura.
