The Svanetian Orthodox Church of Christ the Savior in the village of Chvabiani, built in the 16th-17th centuries, has unique architectural solutions from the late Middle Ages.
Once in the village of Chvabiani in Svaneti, don't miss the Georgian landmark Church of Christ the Savior. Inside the temple you can find a little mystery - the prints of two hands and amazingly beautiful fresco paintings, preserved to this day.
The building of the Church of Christ the Savior is located in the village of Chvabiani. The building is an outstanding monument of the region of Svaneti, having very beautiful and unique architectural and painted solutions. It was built of hewn stone in X century.
Inside the building besides the altar there is a huge hall which has very big height and width. The hall is divided into two spacious parts by a pair of pilasters on which the big church vault is based. There are two entrances - from the western and southern side.
It should be noted that the interior of the building is very graceful and beautiful. Turning your gaze to the western facade of the building, you can notice its small load of some planes. The upper level has a flat surface, which ends at the bottom of the high pilasters. Between these pilasters three arches are built, which give a special zest to the building.
The lower level has a very beautiful cladding structure, against which the door, decorated with expensive and beautiful materials, stands out very much. Also near the building you can see a small monument with the handprints of two people.
Of course, an integral beauty of the church are the frescos painted by unknown painters in the seventeenth century.
