The most beautiful temples in Georgia. Bagrat Temple.
The construction of the Bagrat temple was completed at the beginning of the eleventh century, but this did not prevent it from being preserved in almost perfect condition. The bagrat is decorated with carved ornaments, the floor is covered with mosaics. The domes of the temple are made in a pleasant turquoise color. That will allow you to see this place from afar.
On the hill Ukimerioni stands Bagrat Temple, built by the king of Abkhazians and Georgians Bagrat III (978-1014) in the name of the Assumption of the Holy Virgin. The coronation ceremony of the crowned persons took place here, and the anointing of the world was performed by the bishop of Kutaisi.
According to the inscription on the northern wall of the Temple, its construction was completed in 1003. Bagrat Temple, together with Svetitskhoveli, Oshki and Alaverdi, occupies a special place in the history of Georgian architecture. It is a magnificent example of the original Georgian architecture of the X-XI centuries. There are assumptions that the Georgian kings of the XI century. (George I and Bagrat IV) were buried here.
In the first half of the XI century, magnificent gates with the richest carved patterns were added to the southern and western sides of the temple, which survived until the 30s of the XIX century. The Bagrat Temple is decorated with magnificent carved ornaments, especially the gates and the tops of the windows. The base and capitals are decorated with relief images. The floor was covered with mosaics.
According to Vakhushti Bagrationi, in 1692 the Ottomans dropped the dome of the temple. Its destruction continued for a long time. Currently, the "Bagrat Temple Restoration Fund" has been established.
The purpose of this fund is to reconstruct the temple using modern technologies. Since 1994, the Bagrat Temple has been included in the list of UNESCO World Cultural Treasures. In 1995, the service resumed in the church. In 2009, the Georgian government began a complete reconstruction of the monument, which was completed in 2012.
