Lagodekhi is a unique place in Georgia. It was made unique by the presence of more than a hundred species of plants. A huge number of waterfalls of different heights fall from the hills of the territory. The animal world is also diverse. From the hills you can see beautiful landscapes that are definitely worth seeing.
Nature conservation areas Lagodehi They are located in the northeastern part of Georgia, on the border of Dagestan and Azerbaijan, at the foot of the Caucasus Mountains within Kakheti, at an altitude of 4000-3500 meters above sea level. They consist of two nature reserves and are the oldest in the Caucasus.
Creation Lagodekh Nature reserves in 1912, it was associated with a large number of plants of endemic species. The presence here of more than 100 species of plants belonging to the endemes of Georgia and the Caucasus determines the uniqueness of the Lagodekhi nature conservation areas.
The relief of the territories is dotted with river valleys, on which there are many waterfalls. There is also a rather deep-water lake of the Black Rock, which gives the landscape of the Alpine zone a unique view in its beauty. The relatively long history of the protected areas of Lagodekhi has clearly affected the pristine natural environment. Vertical zonality of natural conditions, untouched natural environment, landscape and biological diversity are well represented here.
The largest area in the Lagodekh territories is occupied by beech forests, then hornbeam forests and oak forests. Oak forests, birch forests and rhododendron shrubs are common in the subalpine zone.
Fauna is rich and diverse in these territories, among which there are especially many birds (150 species) and mammals (53 species). Animals such as lynx (Lynx lynx), wolf (Canis lupus), brown Bear (Ursus arctos), chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra), East Caucasian tur (Capra cylindricornis), red deer (Cervus elaphus), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), wild pig (Sus scrofa), bearded (Gypaetus barbatus), burial ground (Aquila heliaca), peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetus fulva), hawk (Aquila nipalensis), Caucasian grouse (Teatra o mlokosiewieczi), Caucasian ular (Tetraogallus caucasicus).
There are many historical and archaeological monuments near the protected areas. Among them should be noted pre-Christian dwellings and tombs, early Christian medieval churches and fortresses.
