What to see in Georgia - Legvtakhevsky waterfall in Old Tbilisi, Abanotubani district.
The Legvtakhevsky waterfall is 22 meters high, not too high by Georgian standards. It is located in Old Tbilisi, in the Abanotubani district, in the botanical garden of the same name, which was restored in 2012.
Sights of Georgia– these are not only cultural and architectural monuments of the country, but also its natural resources, which can be considered the most beautiful places in Georgia.
In one of the important historical and geographical areas of Old Tbilisi, Abanotubani, in the Lagvtakhevi valley, there is a waterfall of the same name. It falls from a height of 22 m . The waterfall and its valley are called Lagvtakhevi, as there are many fig trees growing in the vicinity, otherwise – figs.
The first mention of the waterfall is in 1429. The purpose of Lagvtakhevi is to separate the oldest district of Tbilisi and the city of Kala, which is now called Abanotubani. Other names of Legvtakhevi: Tsavkisishevi, Salalakishevi are found in sources dating back to the period of late feudalism. In the past, the stormy Tsavkasis River flowed through all the lands of the Lagvtakhevi Valley.
The Dabakhana River also flows there, so named because of the silver content in the water, its waters used to treat the skin, treat wounds. In the 19th century, a botanical garden appeared in Lagvtakhevi, and in 2012 Lagvtakhevi was rebuilt.
Depending on the sunlight during the day, the waterfall looks different. For this reason, many tourists visit it several times to catch the waterfall in various guises.
In summer, Lagvtakhevi is calm, the atmosphere around is fresh and cool. The explanation for this is the lack of water in the river in the summer. But in spring, when the water level rises, the flow of the waterfall changes to stormy, in winter it changes into an ice column, which is sheltered from the winds blowing here.
Entrance to the territory of the gorge and to the Lagvtakhevi waterfall is absolutely free at all times of the year. Tourists take advantage of this, and every day many people come to the canyon to admire the picturesque views. The valley and the Lagvtakhevi Waterfall are something that is interesting and accessible to see in Georgia.
