Lakes in the mountains. Clean lakes in Georgia. Javakheti lakes.
The landscape of Javakheti is quite unusual, which contributes to the formation of unusual lakes here. The relief of this area is volcanic mountains and hills, in the hollows of which large and small lakes are located. There are about eighty of them here. In these Javakheti lakes there is the largest in the whole of Georgia.
Lake Tabatskuri образовалось в результате извержения вулкана. В озеро Tabatskuri the peninsula on which the lake of the same name is located crashes.
Javakheti, one of the oldest regions of Georgia, its relief and landscape differs from other regions of Georgia. Located on Javakheti volcanic plateau. The region is surrounded by ridges on three sides: from the south is the Nailiskuri ridge (Crdili), from the east are the Samsara and Gultovli ridges, from the east is the Sharvasheti ridge; from the west the Kura Valley adjoins the region. The ecosystem of the region is one of the unique habitats in the Caucasus. It is dominated by a harsh (dry) continental climate, which is characterized by cold and frosty winters.
In January, the average temperature is below 0 °C, and the amount of annual precipitation is approximately 500-600 mm. Due to such natural conditions, there is a special mountainous landscape, characteristic only for the southern part of the country. The forests here are represented only in the form of artificially grown groves with coniferous trees. But the meadows are distinguished by an abundance of various plants and full-flowing rivers.
The relief of the Javakheti Highlands consists of volcanic mountains and hills. There are about 80 large and small lakes in the basins between them. The area of most of them does not exceed 1 km2, although among them there is the largest lake in Georgia Paravani (height 2073 m above sea level, area 37.5 km2, volume 91 km3, depth 3.3) and the most watery lake Tabatskuri (221 million m, depth 40.2 m).
To protect the lakes of Javakheti and its unique landscape, the Javakheti National Park (the park area is 14,200 hectares) was created on the initiative of the Agency of Nature Protection Territories. The park covers part of the territory of the municipality of Akhalkalaki and Ninotsminda, as well as several nature reserves. The improvement of the national park is currently underway. The project is being implemented by the World Wide Fund for Nature Protection (WWF Germany) and the Bank for Reconstruction of Germany.
There are an infinite number of amazing places on the territory of the country. Each of them is filled with its own history and energy. This is very unusual for such a fairly small country, but thanks to the reverent attitude of Georgians to their customs and traditions, today we can touch these ancient sights.
