The building, constructed in the second half of the 19th century, received the status of an immovable cultural heritage monument on February 17, 2016. The museum collection includes 270 exhibits reflecting various aspects of the academician’s life and work.

👤 Who is Giorgi Akhvlediani?

📚 Giorgi Akhvlediani (1887–1973) is an outstanding Georgian linguist, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Georgian SSR, who left a deep mark on the history of science.

He was born in the village of Derchi, where he spent his childhood years before going to study. In 1910, he entered the Faculty of History and Philology of Kharkov University, where he received fundamental knowledge of Indo-European linguistics and classical philology. Later, he continued his studies at Petrograd University, expanding his research in the field of phonetics.

🔬 In 1918, when Tbilisi State University was founded, Akhvlediani returned to Georgia and became one of its first teachers. His works on the phonetics of Kartvelian and Caucasian languages ​​became the basis for future generations of linguists, and his research in the field of speech therapy and phonology is still relevant today.
