Just like the House of Justice in Tbilisi, the building in Rike Park is a project of the Italian architect Massimiliano Fuchsas. And similarly, it has a super-modern, somewhat controversial look. Until recently, there were periodic disputes among politicians and the public about the appropriateness of such futuristic buildings.

At the moment, the disputes have subsided, the residents are used to it, and tourists frankly like it. Moreover, the adjacent territory was landscaped and ennobled.

It originates in the sixth century AD, when, according to legend, an ascetic, David of Gareja, settled in these parts. It is believed that he is one of those who brought the Christian faith to Georgia. In memory of him, not only this church was built, but also a monastery in the village of Akura.

In this case, the architectural style is absolutely clear and it is called by the beautiful word brutalism. However, this term was not always used — in the Soviet Union it was called Soviet modernism. One way or another, but this original design can be observed on the banks of the Kura River when leaving Tbilisi, Georgia.

It is a curious fact that the building was built in the seventy-fifth year, and already in the eighty-first, the builders, together with the designers who took part in the creation of this structure, received an award from the Council of Ministers of the USSR. Even later, already in the two thousand seventh, the building was recognized as a national monument of architecture.

The very idea of such a design comes, oddly enough, from the principles of harmony between man and nature. In order for buildings to capture as little ground space as possible, they existed vertically. Thus, the area of the foundation adjacent to the ground is smaller, and the opportunities for the development of flora are greater. Such a construction plan disturbs plants and shrubs to a much lesser extent. Initially, this idea was inspired by the analogy with trees, the crown of which occupies much more space than the trunk. 

Currently, this unusual house is fully functioning and occupied by the Bank of Georgia.

The next interesting place I would like to tell you about is the educational institution named after Apollon Karamanovich Kutateladze. The history of the establishment of this educational institution begins at about the same time as the Georgian Parliament building, that is, at the beginning of the twentieth century.

The recognized Soviet painter of Georgian origin is known not only for his canvases, but also for being an ardent defender of the aforementioned academy. He managed the seemingly impossible — not only not to allow the educational institution to be deprived of its status, but even to expand it. The memory of his personality remained as a person with unique diplomatic and organizational abilities. He opened new faculties and always adequately defended the rights of his University.

Nowadays, the academy not only successfully trains more and more new generations of students. But they also enjoy conducting excursions. In the process, you can not only admire works of art, some of which are hundreds of years old. But also to learn a little more about the period of the formation of the academy, the troubled times preceding our relatively quiet days.

Stay at the London hotel, Tbilisi.

Another attraction of Tbilisi, Georgia is definitely called the once famous London Hotel.

Its history begins at the end of the nineteenth century, as the most popular institution for the bohemian and intellectual elite. Such outstanding cultural figures as the composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and the writer Maxim Gorky, beloved by many, enjoyed their holidays in those walls.

Later, the Zubalashvili family, the rightful owners of the building, had to leave their homeland and immigrate. Nevertheless, the brothers are still remembered, one of the central streets of Tbilisi is named after them. And the buildings that they built are still standing.

As for the once most popular London hotel itself, the building has not been used as a hotel since the first half of the twentieth century.

Over the years, the legacy of the brothers has experienced a lot. And now, as far as possible, it is an ordinary residential building. With its unique architecture, wooden stairs and carved railings.

One of the most mysterious sights of Tbilisi, or even the whole of Georgia, is considered to be the Karmir Avetaran Church, or rather the remaining ruins. Discrepancies begin already at the construction stage. According to some sources, the construction was carried out in the eighteenth century, according to others only in the nineteenth.

Shamkhor Armenians, who fled from their lands from the threat of the Turks, were engaged in its construction at the beginning of the eighteenth century. There is evidence that the height reached forty meters, which was a record for buildings of this kind built by Armenians. What happened to the cathedral in the interval up to the present day is not known for certain.

One thing is clear — the destruction occurred at the end of the twentieth century and, unfortunately, there are no plans to restore it in the foreseeable future. But even the ruins of the temple show how majestic this building was.
