The city gates used to block the narrow passage to the river. There was more than one entrance. The main entrance to the fortress was located in the western part. Watchtowers are built in the main citadel. There are ruins in the northern part of Ujarma now. There used to be residential buildings on this place.
In addition to the above, there is a church in the fortress. Initially, the first floor was built, later the second one appeared. The church looks quite tall with windows on both sides (east and west). The walls are built of large stone slabs.
As for the fortress itself, its wall stretches from the north. 9 towers were built on it. Troops serving in the fortress used to live on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The towers resembled closed cylinders in their shape, and crenellated walls were located around them.
In addition, there is another church along the coast – Kviratskhoveli. Its walls were built of sandstone and bricks. On the south side there is another church, which is famous for its tomb located under the building. According to legend, King Aspaguri built a fortress here, but now you can see only the ruins left on the site of the structure.
