Towards the end of the 19th century, a horse-drawn railway called "Conca" was brought out from Yerevan Square on Golovin Avenue. At the beginning of the 20th century, the tram replaced the Konka road. As soon as Georgia was declared independent, Golovin Avenue was renamed Rustaveli Avenue.
