A two-day trek to Lake Oreti from the village of Kvemo Omalo. Possible horseback riding for one day trekking route.
The start of the two-day route is the village in Kvemo Omalo. If you plan to hike, it will take 2 days to reach Lake Oreti. You can spend the night on the shore of the lake. The second option is horseback riding. It can be completed in one day
If you are looking for the most beautiful places in Georgia and can't decide where to go, consider a trip to Lake Oreti.
This lake is located 2,650 meters above sea level in a protected area. If you get there by car, you will need to drive about 6 km from the village of Kumelaurt.
Small streams flow into the lake and feed it. The lake itself is deep and cold. If you come in winter, you will see that it is completely frozen, so fish are not found here.
Oreti is also the site of day 3 of the local Oretobu Festival.
The starting point of the trail is the visitor center for the village of Kwemo Omalo. Keep in mind that once you pass the village of Kumelaurta, there will be nowhere to refill your water, so take care of that in advance.
For those who want to make do with one day, you can have a horseback hike, but a more atmospheric option is to stay and spend the night at the lake. There is a spring and wilderness camping near it.
One of the reasons to stay is the beautiful views of Tushetia and the fact that animals endemic to the area live here: the Caucasian grouse and the Caucasian snowcock. Their activity period comes just in the evening and in the morning, so if you stay overnight, you can not only hear them, but also see them.
