The church of St. Nicholas in Aspindza is a church at the north-eastern exit from the town, by the start of the Damala road. The St. Nicholas church meets and sees off those who turn from the Mtkvari valley into the eastern hills of the municipality, towards Agara, Damala and mountain Shoreti: beyond it the asphalt ends and the real Aspindza countryside begins.
For a district town living by the transit to Vardzia this is a quiet but precise detail: a church of its own at the fork where the local, untouristed roads begin. A good first or last stop of the hill route: from here Agara and Damala are a few kilometres away, while Shoreti takes half a day with the climb.
One enters freely, with the usual courtesy of a working church: modest dress, a quiet voice, respect for a service if one is under way.
