The Pirkushi chapel in the northern part of Akhmeta is a small sanctuary with a name from the mountain tradition of eastern Georgia. Pirkushi is a name known above all from the shrines of Khevsureti and Pshavi, and its appearance in a Kakhetian town is a trace of the old ties between the plain and the mountains.
The chapel meanwhile lives a fully urban rhythm: residential quarters around, neighbours, weekday cares, with no separation from town life at all. A short stop for those collecting the traces of highland spiritual geography around Akhmeta: the same thread runs on to the Iakhsari church by the Zemo Alvani road.
The chapel is seen freely, with ordinary courtesy: a quiet voice, respect for the neighbouring yards and for any offerings left there. The stop takes a few minutes.
