The Jandieri church in the northern part of Akhmeta is the church of an old manor together with a tower dwelling and a household cellar. The dating of the complex is the eighteenth century, the time when Kakhetian noble families built fortified manors where a house, a tower and a church of their own lived within one fence.
For a town such an ensemble is a rarity, and therein lies the chief value of the visit: not a single church but the whole order of a Kakhetian manor, legible in stone. It is a few minutes on foot from the centre of Akhmeta, and the town at once recedes: the manor yard keeps its own time.
The complex is seen freely, with ordinary courtesy: a quiet voice, respect for the neighbouring yards. The old masonry needs care: no climbing the tower and no handling of the stones. Seeing the ensemble takes a quarter of an hour.
