Vineyards and winery "Chateau zegaani"
- Description
Chateau Zegaani is a winery located in the Mukuzani micro-region, known for its unique terroirs and favorable climatic conditions for growing grapes. This region occupies a special place among the wine terroirs of Georgia due to the composition of the soil and its location. The vineyards on the northern mountain slopes provide natural ventilation, preventing moisture stagnation, which creates optimal conditions for growing grapes.
The Chateau Zegaani family farm owns 20 hectares of vineyards, where vines are cultivated using environmentally friendly methods. Features of the approach include:
- Manual care of vines: pruning, thinning of foliage and harvesting are done manually, ensuring maximum care for the plants.
- Eco-friendly materials: vine supports are made of oak and acacia, and garters are made with natural fibers of corn tops so as not to harm the plants.
- Natural fertilizers: only organic fertilizers such as cow manure are used, without the use of insecticides and herbicides.
A 19th-century winemaking chateau, carefully preserved by the Tatulashvili family. Within the historic walls of the chateau, the entire process - from processing grapes to bottling - takes place in compliance with centuries-old traditions. Visits are possible by appointment only.
The winery was founded in 1820 by Prince Alexander Chavchavadze and is still famous for producing exclusive natural wines. In 2010, the current owners of the chateau completed five years of work to restore the estate to its original form.
The owners of Chateau Zegaani, the Tatulashvili family, personally control the production technology, observing the centuries-old traditions of Georgian winemaking. The winemaking process does not go beyond the chateau. From
processing grapes to bottling and storage, the wine is hidden from sunlight and does not leave the walls of the castle. All the magic of winemaking from the first fermentation to maturation and careful storage takes place in the historical
cellars built by Prince A. Chavchavadze.
The wines are created only from the best years' harvest, collected exclusively from 17 hectares of organic vineyards in the Zegaani microzone. Exclusive wine is also created from the Saperavi variety with a unique taste and long-term storage potential, based on laboratory studies of the produced
wine.
Every wine connoisseur should visit this most important place for the history of winemaking in Georgia, learn more about the features of wine production and storage in cellars built more than 200 years ago.
