The National Museum of Georgia, also known as the National Gallery of Dmitry Shevardnadze, was founded in 1920 and is located at Tbilisi, Shota Rustaveli Avenue, 11. Since 2007, the museum has been united into a legal entity of public law under the control of the Ministry of Protection of Culture and Monuments of Georgia. The Museum of Fine Arts houses more than 30,000 objects, including paintings, sculpture, drawings and decorative arts. Among the collection you will find works by such famous artists as Elena Akhvlediani, David Kakabadze, Lado Gudiashvili, Sergo Kobuladze, Zurab Nizharadze and others. Open daily, except Monday, from 10:00 to 18:00. Tickets cost 5 GEL for adults and 0.50 GEL for schoolchildren and students. Tours are available for 25 GEL in Georgian and 45 GEL in English. However, certain categories of people have free entry, including children under 6 years of age, museum staff, ICOM members, people with disabilities and refugees (with supporting documents). It also regularly holds exhibitions of various collections from Georgia and other countries, has educational programs and publishes museum catalogs and booklets. The Educational Programs Department handles the museum's collections and is available via email or telephone.
