The Dolochopi Basilica, located in the picturesque Kakheti region northwest of the city of Kvareli, is a spectacular archaeological find. This ancient temple was discovered during archaeological excavations in 2010 and dates back to the first half of the 5th century. Although written documents about it have not survived, its history is riddled with mysteries and secrets from the time of the invasion of Marwan Ibn Muhammad.

The Basilica of Dolochopi appears to have gone through several periods of construction and destruction, including the High Middle Ages, when a cemetery arose on the site of the destroyed temple, damaging the remains of its original structure. The site represents a complex web of historical events and cultural influences, including the Mongol invaders in the 13th century.

The Basilica of Dolochopi is a unique architectural ensemble, including three naves, separated by rows of cruciform columns made of carefully crafted stone. The central nave ends with an apse, and the windows, although greatly destroyed by time, testify to the luxury and grandeur of this place in antiquity. Other interesting features include rectangular pastophoria and carefully carved arches and capitals, testifying to the skill of the ancient builders.
