Furtio Bridge, Adjara, Georgia
- Description
The Furtio Bridge is a unique medieval stone arched bridge located in picturesque Adjara, between the villages of Zamleti and Furtio, on the Adzharistskali River. This historical monument serves as a testament to the skill and tradition of the ancient builders, demonstrating the amazing architectural solutions of that time. Over the years, the bridge has suffered the brunt of time, coming to us in a damaged state, but thanks to efforts to restore it, today it appears before visitors in all its glory.
The length of the bridge is 13.5 meters with a variable width reaching up to 2.33 meters. The height of the abutments is 3 meters, which, together with the unique recesses on the sides of the bridge, creates a unique architectural image. Despite the fact that the bridge was built without railings and other elements, its design ensures reliability and stability.
In 2006, recognizing the historical and cultural significance of the Furtio Bridge, it was officially declared an immovable cultural monument of national importance by decree of the President of Georgia. This place is not only an important part of the region's heritage, but also a wonderful reminder of the past, providing visitors with the opportunity to touch history and enjoy magnificent views of the nature of Adjara.

An unexpected gem! Standing beside the ancient arches, I felt the quiet strength of time. The bridge whispers tales of a bygone era in every stone. While the surroundings show signs of age, the serene river view compensates for any imperfections.

Under a quiet arch of stone, nestled in a hidden Georgian valley, I found a moment of pure serenity. The absence of crowds made it feel like a secret shared between the mountains and me. A gentle river below, inviting and untouched, offered a perfect spot for a swim—a rare pause in time. Nature's quiet companion, this bridge is not just a path, but a whisper of history and tranquility.

Nestled amidst rugged beauty, the bridge seemed ready to whisk me back in time. Alas, the uneven width proved to be a challenge, making navigation feel slightly precarious. Perhaps more charm than practicality, the narrow midpoint would benefit from a bit more refinement. Still, there's no denying the raw allure of this stone archway under the Georgian sky.

One of the arch bridges of Adjara. It is located further along the gorge and you need to drive a little on a road without asphalt (passable in a Prius without problems) and therefore less popular than the rest. This is good - there were no people, there was a great creek and shore below for a swim.
