Where to refuel a car in Georgia, gas stations on Georgian roads - which one to choose and how much does gasoline cost in Georgia.
One of the problems you may encounter at gas stations in Georgia is the language barrier. Popular gas stations in Georgia include Wissol, Lukoil, Socar, Rompetrol, Gulf, and Frego. You can pay for your car's fuel in Georgia with a card or cash, but on very small gas stations in Georgia, non-cash payments may not be available...
All about gas stations on Georgian roads⬇️
To refuel in Georgia is a common thing, and the process is the same as in any other country.
The only problem that may arise is the language barrier.
But to make this process easier, we have collected information in one article that may be useful for driving in Georgia.
Type of service
Gas stations that provide a full range of services do not operate on a self-service basis. And the rule that is familiar to any driver is to make sure that you have correctly named and the staff has correctly understood which fuel is needed.
The main gas stations
There are several network gas stations in Georgia that are common in both large cities and small towns. Pay attention to companies like "Wissol", "Sokar", "Lukoil", "Rompetrol", and "Gulf", which are often found in Tbilisi, Batumi, and Kutaisi. It is best to choose the "Rompetrol" gas station as they stand out for their high-quality fuel.
There are many CNG (compressed natural gas) filling stations throughout the country, with the exception of the regions of Tusheti, Svaneti, and Racha. It is not recommended to fill up with propane as it is quite difficult to find. If the above-mentioned gas stations are not available in a small village, it is easier and safer to choose the gas stations that are popular among locals and taxi drivers.
Classes of gasoline
Here is everything simple, so drivers won't get confused. The following hint will help you understand if necessary.
Super-98
Premium-95
Euro Regular-92
Payment
Most stations accept both payment methods: cards and cash. But just in case, keep some cash on hand for small stations as they may only accept cash.
The currency
Of course, only the national currency - lari, is used in Georgia.
When to pay
Usually, services are paid for in advance, but some stations have their own rules and payment can be made after the car has been refueled.
Price
Local gas stations only sell diesel fuel and unleaded gasoline. Payment is accepted by credit card and cash in Georgian lari, so it is necessary to exchange foreign currency in advance. Many gas stations are open 24/7.
Fuel prices in August 2022 were:
AI-92 Euro Regular - 3.75 lari;
AI-95 Premium - 4.00 lari;
AI-98 Super - 4.25 lari;
Diesel - 4.60 lari;
Gas - 2.25 lari.
Don't forget about the approximately 50% increase in fuel consumption due to driving in mountainous areas.
At an altitude above 2400 meters above sea level, the engine may falter due to thin air, so the driver should constantly control the gears to avoid problems.
A good sign of a quality gas station is if you notice taxi drivers and truckers using it. Professionals know where to find relatively good quality gasoline.
By the way, keep in mind that diesel is now often more expensive than gasoline. To find out current prices, use the following websites:

Best quality
If you are interested in having only high-quality fuel on the road, pay attention to the Romanian company Rompetrol. They provide Georgia with the best gasoline. However, the prices here will be above average accordingly.
Low prices
If your priority is saving money, then go to Frego to fill up your tank. Here you can save about 15% compared to most gas stations. Alternatively, check out gas stations with less well-known brands.
Tipping
There is no rule regarding tipping for filling up your gas tank. It depends solely on your desire and nothing more.
Charging EV
Georgia is a developed country, however, electric cars are still not widely spread. Nevertheless, their popularity is growing every year, so there are places in the country for recharging electric vehicles: an EV charging station map.
Gas stations
If you need liquefied gas or compressed natural gas (CNG), there are plenty of stations and it's easy to find them. Most stations are open 24/7, including weekends. One thing to keep in mind is that not all stations have restrooms for visitors, but you can use restrooms in a nearby restaurant or other establishment.
If you are traveling to rural areas, keep an eye on your fuel level, as gas stations here are much less common than in the city and their sizes are also smaller.
And don't forget to check out the gas stations in Batumi and Gori, as they are among the top 10 gas stations in the world.
