Chichkhituri is one of the four monasteries worth seeing while traveling in Georgia. The mural painting of the structure is unique and is one of the attractions of Georgia.
Chichhituri is part of the David Gareji cave monastery complex
There is never enough travel, so every year we make a new list of places we would like to visit.
So Chichkhituri monastery can be safely added to the list of things to see in Georgia.
Although chronicles and scientific literature kept very little information about this place. We can say for sure that this is a part of the monastic cave complex of David Gareji, which is one of the most important religious centers of the country.
Therefore, if you have a rich imagination, you can easily draw in your mind a ton of fascinating stories about how the first monks appeared here, what intrigues were woven among them and where they disappeared to in the end.
The only available information about the monastery has come down to us thanks to Vakhushti Batonishvili, who described the geography of Georgia.
In his work, he tells about four monasteries. In two of them, Davitarej, or in translation in David's Lavra, and the Baptist, the archimandrite sits, and in the remaining two, Chichkhituri and Bertubani, the chief sits.
Inside the monastery itself there is much to see. At the very least, the fresco paintings (painting on raw plaster) are so preserved. Apparently, the quality of the materials chosen for decoration was very high.
Now the ownership of the monastery is unstable, as this point is controversial for Georgia and Azerbaijan.
But let's move away from politics, because this place was not created for controversy at all.
The sights of Georgia, at least many of them, are closely related to the nature surrounding them, almost merging.
Thus, and the tower of the monastery is located on the top of the mountain, which offers a great view. Coming here, willy-nilly, you begin to understand the freedom-loving nature of the mountain people. When there is boundless horizon in front of you, when there is silence and nature and only wind rustles over the peaks, the feeling of lightness and almost weightlessness pierces you like an electric current.
So, if you want to feel it on yourself, do not forget that the most beautiful places in Georgia may be hiding in places you do not know. And we are happy to share our findings with you.
