The Berdiki Fortress in Kvemo Kartli is a landmark of Georgia and is named after the village near which it was built.
During the feudal era, fortresses had to be built not only for permanent wars. Bardika, an ancient landmark of Georgia, was built to protect the trade route that connected Georgia and Armenia.
Berdiki Fortress (Poladauri) is a historical fortress built in the middle of the feudal era in the Kvemo Kartli district, Bolnisi municipality, on the right bank of the Bolnisi Tskali River, near the village of Poladauri, on a high mountainous terrain from which there is something to see in Georgia.
History.
The fortress was named after the nearby village of Berdika. The peculiarity of the fortress is that almost nothing is known about it, there are no marks on the map, and there are also no roads and trails. With all this, and maybe because of this, the fortress has preserved its appearance better than many. Partially preserved wall, two security towers, one of them in 4 floors.
It is assumed that earlier, a path to Armenia was paved in this area, and the fortress was built on a mountain at the confluence of two rivers with gorges with only one purpose - to control the passages from the south. There is no reliable information about who built and when this fortress was built. The local inhabitants of the villages and villages around the fortress know about its existence, but their interest ends more.
If you want to visit the sights of Georgia, which include this fortress, it is better to start your journey to it on the road from the south side, where you can see its facade. In relation to the nearest village of Poladauri, it is turned so that only the cross and the tower are visible, which can easily fall out of sight. A gorge runs from the north of the fortress, this is the only place where you can find the way to this structure, while there are no markers or trails from the main road to easily find this path. Going out to the gorge, you need to look for a path that will then begin to develop for several, but if you have already found it, then you can just go up by intuition and go to the fortress.
The inside of the fortress is not very remarkable and does not surprise much. The fortress was built from two parts, each of which stood on its own rock. The stone staircase present does not inspire confidence, so it will not work to call walking around the fortress an “easy walk”. In many places you will have to climb, crawl to get to the place you are interested in. According to the latest data, it is unknown how they got there earlier, but now there is a split in the wall that facilitates passage to the fortress.
Near the fortress, in the eastern part there are rocks to which there are a small number of trails, if desired, you can reach them, but it is worth bearing in mind that it is high there. But on the other hand, the most beautiful places of Georgia and even Mount Loki open from the top.
