The castle of Heraclius, King of Kakheti, was built due to urban unrest. Preserved to this day, it has become an important historical and cultural landmark of Georgia.
The only royal palace on the territory of Georgia, Batonis Tsikhe Castle in Telavi, is one of the most beautiful places in Georgia.
The palace of King Heraclius II was converted into a house-museum of local lore in 1927. The museum is located in the eastern edge of Georgia – Kakheti, in the city of Telavi.

The architectural complex is a palace, which remains the only Royal Castle in Georgia. The museum includes several buildings: the Main Palace of Heraclius, medieval churches, underground tunnels and ancient baths. There is definitely something to see in Georgia.
Of course, this is not all that can be found in the house-museum, ancient armor, carved sarcophagi, a unique collection of handmade carpets, many paintings by not only Georgian artists are of interest. The gallery also presents works by German, Russian and Dutch painters.
Sights of Georgia they are often interesting not only from an architectural point of view, but also from a historical point of view. Previously, the Batonis Tsikhe Palace was the residence of more than one generation of monarchs. Additional extensions began to complement the castle much later than its construction. The church and baths were acquired in the Archil era, and in the 18th century, Heraclius II himself broke five-meter flowerbeds around the palace, which were replaced by a stone fence.
The fence was also strengthened over the years, it was finally completed in 1753. There are several ways to get inside the castle: through the main carved gates and through the spare doors on the southern and northern sides of the fortress.
A church was built for the inhabitants of the castle in 1758, the tsar himself ordered it to be done in the name of his subjects. A defensive structure was additionally built around the church.
There is a pier not far from the monastery, it is unique in that its length reaches 14 m, nothing like it can be seen in Georgia. Queen Darejan was engaged in its construction, a powerful cannon about 8 meters long guarded the pier, it was removed after the forties of the 19th century due to dilapidation.
