Поселение Сиони находится на дне котловины под водохранилищем, на расстоянии 45 км от Тбилиси, на высоте 1000 м над уровнем моря.
Когда вместе с деревней под водой оказались несколько средневековых памятников, но Базилику разобрали во время строительства водохранилища и перенесли в Тбилисский этнографический музей.
Популярность посёлка обусловлено близостью от столицы и наличием одновременно озёрного, горного и лесного воздуха, а также лечебного климата
умеренно влажного, с холодной, снежной зимой и долгим прохладным летом.
