To the southwest of the city of Tbilisi there is a winding ascending road. It skirts the suburban suburban areas of Tbilisi, such as Okrokana, Shindisi and Tabakhmela. Immediately after these places, she goes up to the mountain climatic place Kojori. The length of this road from the city center is 16 kilometers, and if you walk from Mtatsminda to Kojori, the road is shortened by 7 kilometers and is only 9.
It is now called Kojori, this place used to have another name - Agarani. Accordingly, the Agarati buildings turned into Kojori ones. For example, the Agarati fortress towering in these places, the place of the summer standing of the Georgian kings, today is called Kojorskaya. As already mentioned, this toponym did not appear immediately.
The opinions of researchers about the origin of this name are divided. Some believe that it has a connection with the word “kochori”, which translates as “tuft". They justify this assumption by the fact that the plateau of the same name was covered with forests at that time and the locals associated the appearance of the plateau with the vortices.
This is not the only version of the origin of the toponym, but none of them has been proven. The mountainous climate of Kojori has a positive effect on health: it increases immunity and keeps the body in good shape. This is especially pronounced in young children.
Previously, the surroundings of the city of Tbilisi were covered with verdant plants, and in the city itself there was a slight coolness even in summer. In those days, only the rich residents of Tbilisi could afford to go to country houses.
Summer cottages in the old days were considered Ortachala, Bagebi Krtsanisi, Gldani, Kojori, Tabakhmela and others. Now they are already located within the city limits. Kojori stood out among them. It was the summer residence of the kings of Georgia. It was there in the XIX century that the governor of the tsar himself and other persons holding high positions spent time.
