Java Municipality It is located in the northern part of the region between the municipalities of Tskhinvali and Oni in the valley of the Didi Liakhvi River. This mountainous area, covered with magnificent mixed deciduous forests (where oaks, beech, spruce, pine and fir grow), is rich in mineral waters. During the Soviet period, Java was an important recreational area. The resorts known throughout the Soviet Union functioned here: Vesuri, Kodibini, Lese and Bagiati.
Java, or as it is also called "Dzau-Suar", is the most famous and popular climatic and balneological resort in the Region. Dzau means a well of mineral water, and Suar means salty. Natural mineral water wells are located in the valley of the Didi Liakhvi River on the right bank. The population knew about the beneficial effects of water many centuries ago. In 927, scientists studied the mineral waters of Java and compiled indicators for its use. A few years later, the first sanatoriums were built here, to which rest homes and pioneer camps were then added. Bottled mineral waters "Dzau Suar" and "Bagiati" were very popular among consumers. As a result of the well-known events of the 90s, the resort area of Java ceased to function.
In 1977, the Liakhva Nature Reserve was established. This was done in order to protect the vegetation of the mountains and high mountains found in the valley of the upper reaches of the Patara Liakhvi River and in the southern slopes of the eastern Kavkasioni. The reserve covers 6388 hectares. It is covered with woodlands (with beech trees, hornbeams, oaks, with a small number of firs, Litvinov birches, 5386 hectares) and subalpine shrubs, mainly rhododendrons. Alpine meadows and towering cliffs stretch above. Trout live in the rivers - this fish is listed in the Red Book of Georgia. The ornithofauna of the reserve is also rich. Of the rare species of mammals, chamois brown bears are found here. These animals are also included in the "Red Book" of Georgia.

В 1977 году создан Лиахвский заповедник, покрытый субальпийским кустарником. Наверху – альпийские луга и скалы. Бурые медведи и форель внесены в Красную книгу.
