The oldest caves in Georgia. Tsutskhvati Caves.
The Tsutskhvati Caves are the oldest and most multi-level caves not only in Georgia, but also in the whole world. Primitive man inhabited only five caves of this complex. In the Bronze Cave items of the Bronze Age were found respectively. In Bisonia cave bones of bison were found and so on. The complex has an elongated shape.
To the south of Tsoutskhvati village, in the canyon of the Shabatgele River, on a rock about 150 m high, there are 13 caves in a tiered order. The caves of Tsoutskhvati are the oldest and the most multi-storey caves in the world. The distance upwards from the river level to the highest cave is 60-70 m.
The primitive man dwelled only in 5 caves of this complex. The Bronze, Bear, Bison, Double Ear and the upper caves were inhabited by Middle Paleolithic man. The cave most exposed to the sun (this cave is located away from the rest of the caves) bears traces of Upper Paleolithic man's habitation.
The caves were named according to certain indicators. For example, Bronze Age objects were found in the Bronze Cave, in the Bison Cave during the excavations we came across bones of a bison skeleton, in the Bear Cave - bones of a cave bear.

The Tsutskhvati cave complex has an elongated shape. The Shabatgele river and its tributaries after passing the bottom of the cave merge and flow through a through, the youngest cave, which is under the rest of the caves and which is 20-25 meters high and 10-12 meters wide. After passing through the caves, the Shabatgele River continues to flow under the name Chishura, and near the village of Ajameti merges with the Kvirila River.
In the village Tsutskhvati there is a yew grove, as well as springs of mineral water.
