Historical background
Initially, the garden was divided into several parts belonging to the royal court of Georgia - about the 17th-18th century. From the diary entries of Jean-Baptiste Charlene, a little more became known about that time. The famous traveler witnessed how Kartli-Kakheti's wife took care of this historical treasure. After territorial changes, namely after Georgia joined the Russian Federation, this garden became state-owned.
In the same year, 1845, the cultural monument received a different name - the Botanical Garden. Mikhail Vorontsov led the changes. Gradually, the natural monument expanded in the territory - 1896-1904. In the 30s of the 20th century, the Georgian National Botanical Garden was annexed to the territory of a previously existing Muslim cemetery near the local Tsavkisis River and the Tabor mountain slope.
