This is a national park of international standards in the Caucasus. It was officially opened in 2001, but it began its activity much earlier – in 1995.
Where is it located?
Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park It is located in the very center of Georgia, on the territory of the Lesser Caucasus. The park is included in the list of nature protection zones in Europe and is considered one of the largest in its scale. Its area is 10,7083 hectares.
How to get here?
Some excursions include a visit to the national park. You can also go here by rented car. Borjomi and Bakuriani, as well as other historical sites located nearby, such as Marelisi, Atskuri, Likani and Kvabishevi, provide overnight accommodation for tourists.
Is it worth visiting the national park?
Definitely, yes! Driving along the roads, in between excursions, we meet mountains and trees all over Georgia. What will surprise us Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park? It's simple – flora and fauna. Unusual, unique endemic plants listed in the Red Book grow in these parts. Every tourist who can truly appreciate the value of these plants will not miss the opportunity to look at them personally. The list includes such plants as chestnut, berry yew, grape iris, Kolkha oak, etc.
As for the fauna, it is no less interesting and rich in its diversity. Among the reptiles, you can find the Caucasian agama and the Mediterranean turtle. Birds in the Caucasus are also under protection. Some of them are: Caucasian black grouse, golden eagle, white-headed barn owl. Walking through the park, be careful, because brown bears and wolves, wild boars and deer live here. Fortunately, the park provides everything for a comfortable, and most importantly – safe, rest.
The nearest historical places like Marelisi, Atskuri, Likani and Kvabishevi, together with Borjomi and Bakuriani, offer comfortable hotels to their visitors.
