📚 Konstantin Tsereteli (1921–2004) was one of the leading scholars in the field of Aramaic dialectology and Hebrew-Aramaic studies. He was born in Georgia and showed an interest in Oriental studies from a young age, which led him to a career as a researcher and teacher.
🎓 Since 1960, when the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Georgian Academy of Sciences was founded, Tsereteli became the head of the Department of Semitic Studies, which studied Oriental languages, including Aramaic and Hebrew. In 1991, the Department of Hebrew-Aramaic Philology was created at Tbilisi State University under his leadership.
