Unusual museums in Georgia. Visit interesting exhibitions. Tapestry Museum of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts.
The Tapestry Museum of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts is a truly unusual museum. It preserves paintings, sculptures, which were created over many years by students and teachers of this academy. This is what makes the museum different from other museums. The museum functions as one of the creative workshops.
Taking into account centuries-old traditions of artistic textile development (felt, curtains, etc.), at the initiative of D. Tsitsishvili, G. Kandareli and T. Japaridze in 1960 at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts the Department of Tapestry and Art Textiles was founded, which educated more than one generation of talented artists and laid the foundation for the revival of modern Georgian tapestry.
In 1998, professors Givi Kandareli and Tamaz Nutsubidze founded the Museum of Georgian Tapestry of the Academy of Arts, which fund consists of works created over the years by students and teachers of the Academy. It should be noted that all exhibits presented in the museum, created in the workshop, located next door. The museum still successfully functions as one of the creative studios of the Academy of Arts.
