Exhibitions of works of art in Georgia. Museum of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts.
The Museum of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts houses more than a thousand works by the most prominent masters. Initially, the museum only held a collection of works by students of the academy, but now it has been expanded. Be sure to visit this museum and enjoy the beautiful works of art.
At the initiative of the Rector of the Academy of Arts, Professor Al. Duduchava in 1928, a fund of the best works by students and trainee students of the Academy was established. The collections of the fund were also enriched with canvases by professors and other outstanding masters in their possession.
Over time, the museum's collections were enriched by works of various kinds of applied art (ceramics, felt, artistic forging, cloisonné enamel, etc.) and samples of decorative art.
In the 1990s, a museum was established on the basis of the fund, which is located on the second floor of the main building of the Academy of Arts, in the "mirror halls" decorated in the late Iranian artistic style. The collection of the museum holds over 1,000 works by outstanding masters of various kinds of art: G. Gabashvili, E. Akhvlediani, A. Tsimakuridze, M. Toidze, K. Zdanevich, T. Balanchivadze, etc. The works of Boris Tiritsov, Cornelia Sanadze, Eduard Ambokadze, Dmitry Khakhutashvili, Lev Bayakhchev, Levan Tsutskiridze, Renaud Turkiya, Oleg Mishin and other students who later became recognized masters, constitute an important part of the museum's archive collections.
Immediately after the founding of the Academy of Fine Arts, one of the most important areas became various types of artistic metal forging. Later the museum funds were enriched by works made of porcelain and clay, the authors of which are Zurab Maisuradze, Alexander Pitskhelauri, Revaz Iashvili, Alde Kakabadze, Nana Botkoveli, Otar Mukhiguli and others.
