The Khariton Akhvlediani State Museum of Adjara is one of the oldest state museums in the whole of Georgia. The interest of this place is that a variety of natural monuments are preserved here. Adjara State Museum is one of the oldest in Georgia. It was founded in 1908. The museum contains rare natural monuments including petrified wood of 25 million years old, exhibits reflecting diverse flora and fauna, a collection of minerals, ethnographic materials of XIX-XX centuries, folk, applied and fine arts, manuscripts, photographs and other documents, rare exhibits of artistic woodcarving, archaeological materials: imported painted crater, bronze, silver and gold articles, samples of small sculpture, military weapons and household implements, covering the period from the twelfth century B.C. to the 4th century A.D, etc.
