💡 What history is hidden behind the walls of this house? Why was Giorgi Dzigvashvili’s name taboo for so long? Learn about his fate and the fight for Georgia’s independence in this unique museum.

📜 История музея: сохранение памяти

🏡 The house where the Giorgi Dzigvashvili Memorial Museum is located today was officially opened on August 5, 2016. This building is the native home of the Dzigvashvili family, where Giorgi spent his childhood and youth.

🔎 The museum was created thanks to the efforts of the poet's younger brother, Suliko Dzigvashvili, as well as the writer Rezo Mishveladze, who helped restore Giorgi's legacy.

💬 But the fate of the museum is not easy - the building requires restoration, and its arrangement is still ongoing. Despite all the difficulties, local authorities and enthusiasts are doing everything possible to preserve the memory of the great poet and his struggle for Georgia's freedom.

👤 Who is Georgy Dzigvashvili?

📚 Giorgi Dzigvashvili (1917–1942) – Georgian poet, translator, participant in the anti-Soviet movement, national hero.

✒️ In his youth, he was fond of literature, wrote poetry and translated the works of Robert Burns. He studied at the Tbilisi State University, Faculty of English Language and Literature.

⚔️ During World War II, he and a group of like-minded people organized an anti-Soviet patriotic organization. Their goal was to liberate Georgia from Soviet rule and create an independent state.

⛓ In 1942, the conspiracy was uncovered, and Giorgi and his comrades were arrested and sentenced to death. On October 17 of the same year, 17 young people were shot.

🏴 His family was persecuted: Giorgi’s brother Pimen Dzigvashvili died at the front, and his mother committed suicide after many years of suffering.

⚖️ In 1988, the name of Giorgi Dzigvashvili was completely rehabilitated. In 2017, on the 100th anniversary of the poet's birth, he was officially accepted into the Writers' Union of Georgia (posthumously).
