🌿 About the museum and the village of Korsha

The village of Korsha is a real treasure trove of Khevsureti, where connoisseurs of peace and pristine nature come. The territory, surrounded by harsh mountains and high mountain passes, is especially valuable for its atmosphere and authenticity: narrow mountain paths, turbulent rivers and majestic peaks create a feeling of extreme solitude. It is here, in an ancient tower preserved since the 18th century, that local residents opened the Korsha Ethnographic Museum.

Inside you will see:

  • 👗 Traditional clothing of the Khevsurs - women's headscarves, men's chokhas and belts with metal trim.
  • 🛠️ Household items - copper utensils, wooden furniture, primitive agricultural tools.
  • 🗡️ Military equipment - daggers, chain mail and ancient firearms.
  • 🖼️ Photographs and paintings by Shota Arabuli - rare photographs and paintings telling about the life of the Korshi people.
In summer, there is an exhibition and sale of folk crafts and paintings by the museum founder, sculptor and artist Shota Arabuli - a great chance to take home an authentic souvenir! 🎨🛍️

Is there any local cuisine you'd recommend trying at the guesthouse in Korsha, especially something unique to the region?

Is there any option for private tours of the museum, or are group visits the only choice? I prefer exploring at my own pace and would love to have a guided experience tailored to my interests.

The idea of exploring an 18th-century stone tower filled with traditional Khevsurian clothing and ancient weaponry sounds incredibly fascinating. It's great to know that there's no entrance fee and that the museum is easily accessible by car from Tbilisi. The tip about weak mobile reception is very helpful—downloading offline maps beforehand is a smart move for anyone planning to visit. I appreciate the practical advice about bringing cash, as well as the recommendation to wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes. This sounds like a must-visit place for anyone interested in history and local culture.

The ethnographic museum in Korsha is an incredible glimpse into the past. Nestled in a restored 18th-century stone tower, the collection showcases around 456 items, including traditional Khevsur clothing, weapons, and household items. Visiting during the summer is a treat with exhibitions and local crafts for sale. The journey from Tbilisi is quite an adventure, especially the last 30 km on a dirt road, so offline maps are a lifesaver. Staying in the local guesthouse was cozy, and I loved the homemade cuisine. Remember to pack warm clothes and cash, as there are no ATMs and cell service is patchy.
