The poet spent most of his life in this house, Vazha Pshavela (real name - Luka Radzikashvili) was born in Chargali in a large family of a local self-taught priest Pavel Radzikashvili and Barbale (Gulkan) Phikelashvili. There were five children in the family. The brothers of the great poet Bachan and Tedo also became famous writers. The future poet studied at the theological college in Telavi, in 1877-1879 the young man continued his education at the two-class civil school at the Tiflis Teachers' Institute, then at the teachers' (craft) seminary of Gori, from which he graduated in 1882.
In 1883-1884, he was a free student at the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg University, but due to lack of livelihood, he was forced to interrupt his studies. After returning to Georgia, he worked first as a home teacher in the family of Prince Amilakhvari, in the village of Otarasheni, then at a rural school in Didi Tone.
Since 1888, he settled in Chargali, where, together with other peasants, he was engaged in arable work, took care of cattle and hunted. The poet had no aptitude for economic activity: when inspiration came to him (as he himself wrote – "Angels visited me"), he quit his job and hurried to sit down for paper.
The museum contains memorial items related to the life and work of Vazha Pshavel: a chair and a table on which he created his masterpieces, a bag in which he carried manuscripts to the editorial office of the newspaper "Iveria". There are also ethnographic materials of the XIX and early XX centuries, collections of his works published at different times; paintings, graphic, sculptural works dedicated to the poet, photographs, etc.
