The figure of Joseph Vissarionovich is of great importance for a huge number of people – residents of Russia, CIS countries and especially Georgia. The assessment of his personality and actions is controversial, one thing is invariable – he made a tremendous contribution to the development of the Soviet Union and the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
In 1936-37-38, the population of Georgia was 2.5 million people. During the same period, 268 thousand people from Georgia became victims of Stalinist repressions. Some of them were tortured and shot, and some were exiled to the far reaches of Russia.
The outstanding statesman and politician of the Soviet period Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin (Dzhugashnili) was born in Gori. When he turned 11, his mother sent him to an Orthodox theological seminary. Due to his anti-government views, he was nicknamed "Koba" ("Koba is a literary character, a robber and a rebel).
In 1903, Joseph embarked on revolutionary activities - he joined the Bolshevik Party and, in order to finance the party, took part in bank robberies. In 1912, he became a member of the central committee of the party and took the pseudonym "Stalin" (of course, the pseudonym carried a certain semantic load - "strong as steel"). In 1917, he played one of the key roles during the Bolshevik coup in Petrograd, and in 1924, after the death of V. I. Lenin, he managed to gain power and declared a merciless war on the opposition. Millions of people died in this struggle (especially in 1936-1938).
After the victory in World War II, Europe was divided into two parts. Stalin spread the repressive communist regime in the countries of Eastern Europe, which, in the words of Winston Churchill, were fenced off from the countries of Western Europe by the "Iron Curtain". The confrontation between Western and socialist countries has passed into the stage of the "cold war".
Stalin's House Museum It was founded during his lifetime, in 1937, in the midst of the repressions of the Bolshevik regime. Located in the center of Burn (Stalin Avenue No. 32). The museum consists of a memorial house of Stalin, an exhibition structure with a tower, and a private train car on which he traveled to Tehran, Yalta and Potsdam. The museum also houses the personal belongings of the leader, items from his Kremlin office, manuscripts, gifts from around the world, his death mask.
Georgians have always been sensitive to the preservation of their traditions, history and heritage, even if these facts were not the most pleasant. Stalin's life is full of bright moments, repressions and executions, but at the same time, the heyday of the USSR and victory in the war. His personality is treated with great respect in his native home, those valuable things and stories that were left after him are protected.
Thanks to this, today we can get to know the leader better, learn something about his childhood and youth.
