The Church of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste is located in the city of Tbilisi. The temple is a monastery, the renewal of which began in 2002 and ended in 2009.
Excavations carried out before the resumption of the church showed that the previously built monastery was erected from ancient times, it was possible to trace the levels of the walls, but not their size and shape, so they were built according to a new project. It turned out that the last time the monastery was destroyed in 1924 by the Soviet authorities.
All the excavations that were found at this place are now in the courtyard of the church, which is why it is also considered the main museum of Tbilisi. Thanks to these excavations, a new history of the city was changing and opening up. Today the church is one of the main attractions of Georgia.
