History of the Temple
The history of this religious monument began in the 7th century AD. At that time there was a small church on the site of the temple, which, after several attempts to seize it, was burned by the Arab invaders. They forced the local monks to convert to Islam. After several days of fruitless siege, the Arabs drowned the monks David and Constantine in a nearby river. After a while, locals saw the bodies of the murdered men on the river bank, they were taken to the temple and buried in this monastery.
In the 9th century, the temple was rebuilt, after a fire and an Arab raid, and was named Motsameta (translated as "martyrs"), in memory of the murdered princes.
Tourists often ask themselves the question: "What to see? What to visit in Georgia?" Most sources advise visiting this temple because its appearance is amazing. This cultural monument is located in the Tskaltsitela Gorge. It can be reached fairly quickly. The monastery is located in the Imereti region of Georgia, which is famous for its exquisite architecture. The sights of Georgia are so fascinating and impressive for tourists that it seems necessary to enter each cathedral and enjoy its picturesque decoration.
Today the monastery of Motsameta impresses with its scale and elegance, and is a value for all the people of Georgia.
