Khashuri is a modest and provincial town in Georgia, known for its "nazuki" tortillas.
The city of Khashuri is located in the eastern part of Georgia. Hashuri cannot boast of popular places, but the attractions include the Church of St. Barbara, the Museum of local lore with interesting exhibits, and of course, the colorful, bright and "delicious" Hashuri market, where you can taste local "nazuki" cakes.
The city is located in the eastern part of Georgia, in the Shida Kartli region. As follows from the sources, the first settlements appeared in this area in the Stone Age. Naturally, there is no documentary evidence about those times.
Documentary mentions of Khashuri have been found since the 17th century. The settlement of Khashuri received the status of a city, like most Georgian cities, in 1921. By the standards of Georgia, Khashuri a fairly large city - more than 25 thousand inhabitants, with a relatively developed industrial sector - glass and mechanical factories, a textile factory.
In Soviet times, there were 4 operating sanatoriums in Khashuri. To special attractions Hashuri can be attributed to the ancient temple of Tsromi, erected in the 7th century. No less popular among tourists and travelers is the Suram fortress, which is much younger than the temple, of the 12th century.
As for the sights located within the city, these include the Church of St. Barbara, the Museum of Local lore and, perhaps, a defensive tower, which in modern times, from the point of view of a non-local resident, looks somewhat strange, being located in the middle of the urban landscape.
The Khashur Tower looks like a kind of bastion. The time of its construction dates back to the 18th century. It is difficult to say for what purpose the tower was built. Of the modern features of the city, one can note the Khashur hammocks, which are a local "brand". Well, gourmets, most likely, will not pass by the bakeries of "nazuki" tortillas.
