The City of Love in Georgia
Sighnaghi is not the only name of the city. A long time ago it was dubbed the "City of Love". This name was given to the city of Sighnaghi by local residents. Lovers love to come here very much. There are many reasons for this. There are two versions of why it is so named:
- Sighnaghi is notable for the fact that it has a 24-hour registry office. It is a beautiful palace. Lovers can get married here even at night by submitting an application an hour before registration. Here lovers are not asked about previously concluded marriages. The marriage stamp is valid all over the world. You will only need identification documents. But you can get a divorce only here.
- Legend has it that the famous talented artist Niko Pirosmani once lived here. One day he fell in love with a touring French actress. In order to gain her favor, Niko sold everything he had and bought "a million scarlet roses" with this money. He strewed these flowers all over the square in front of the hotel where his beloved was staying. But the artist's love remained unrequited. This legend became the basis for Alla Pugacheva's famous song "A Million Scarlet Roses".
In addition to all this romantic atmosphere, a miracle clock hangs on the main building of the city of Sighnaghi, which for some reason never shows the correct time. And why? After all, happy hours are not observed. And in Sighnaghi, the city of love, people do not need this.
