The ancient cave complex Kvakhvreli is located on the shore of Mtkvari. The landmark of Georgia with the preserved Svetitskhoveli Church, the walls of which are decorated with ancient frescoes.
The ancient cave cities of Georgia are mysterious and mysterious - it is impossible to find analogues in the world. Kvakhvreli is one of the youngest cave complexes that have "survived" to the present day. It is just over 1300 years old. Tourists here will be able to see the temple and bell tower, household buildings and ancient caves carved by people in the rocks.
The Kvakhreli cave complex is located on the right bank of Mtkvari. There is also an unknown monument, the construction of which dates back to the VII- IX centuries.
The complex is carved into the rock, which has a fairly steep slope. Having been here, you can see: a church carved into the rock, long corridors, parking lots and a large room with bells. The bell tower is located at the entrance to the complex.
In the wall on the north side there is an entrance to the bell tower, also in it you can see a rectangular window. The structure is located low enough from the ground surface, has a steep slope and a domed roof of a conical shape.
On the walls of the church vault there are three suspended jugs with very beautiful and unusual flowers. Access to the bell tower is through a dark corridor room.
This corridor is one of the main rooms, so through the eastern wall, which exits from it, you can get to the Svetitskhoveli Church. In addition to the main corridor, there are two more in the cave.
The walls of the church are divided by arched recesses. The temple has two rectangular doors. The first wide door is the main source of lighting in the hall. The second door is located in the eastern part of the wall and reaches the second corridor.
The facades of the building are covered with stone arches, which are painted with unusual patterns created by painters of that time. Fragments of the XIII century painting have been preserved in the interior of the temple.
