Three–day trip Tetnuldi – Adishi – Haldechala - Ushguli (43.025239, 42.88695 – 42.914775, 43.013524) – This is an abbreviated version of the Mestia – Ushguli highway known in Svaneti. The total length is 31 km . The best time for a mountain hike is summer, September.
The route starts from the Tetnuldi Mountain (White Mountain), 4869 m high. There is a ski resort here. From Mestia, the main city of Svaneti, you can get to Tetnuldi (18 km) by rented transport. They will help you find a car in Mestia, in the Information Center on the square of the Network.
First day: follow the trail on the northern slope of Tetnuldi down into the gorge and exit to the village of Adishi (2040 m). This is one of the oldest villages in Svaneti, and only about 6 families live in it.
You inspect the preserved old houses and Svan towers. You set up a tent camp for the night.
Second day: the trail leads to the Adishi Gorge, crosses the Adishistskali River. Next – the ascent to the ridge that separates Adishistskali and Haldechala. You climb the Chhunderi pass (2744 m), from here you can clearly see the Lardaad (or Adish) icefall, its height is as much as 1.5 km. From the pass, the way lies to the valley of the high-altitude Haldechala River (2300 m). Here will be the next overnight stay.
Day three: in the valley of the Haldechala River, you can explore the Zaresho-Halde glacier. Then the trail leads to the ridge between Hakdechali and Inguri, through the gorge, along the Inguri River to the highest mountain in Europe (2200 m) village Ushguli. There are many of the best preserved Svan towers and other historical and architectural monuments. Local legend says that in one of the towers was the residence of Queen Tamara.
In many ways, it is thanks to Ushguli that Upper Svaneti is a UNESCO site. Tourists from different countries come to Svaneti. In the mountains, the pace of life is different, it comes to an understanding that there is no need to hurry somewhere, fuss. You need to breathe in the purest mountain air, enjoy the unique views, because these are the most beautiful places in Georgia!
