If you are particularly interested in the art and culture of Georgia, when in Tbilisi, turn to the "Madloba" catalog! We have compiled a list of the most interesting establishments that will not leave you indifferent.
Many tourists, when planning their next trip, usually familiarize themselves with the sights worth visiting. We want to help all those who wish to visit the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, so we have created a list of cultural centers that may interest you.
Rezo Gabriadze Marionette Theater
In 1981, the Georgian playwright, director, and artist Rezo (real name Revaz) Gabriadze (author of the famous screenplays "Kin-dza-dza" and "Mimino") founded this theater. He played the role of a playwright and master in creating and animating puppets on stage. Referring to the established stereotype that puppet shows are intended exclusively for children, Gabriadze himself said that he created stories exclusively for adult audiences. So, you don't have to worry about such entertainment being boring.
The audience hall is not huge, it can accommodate about 80 people. The acting troupe has gained popularity not only locally but also globally. It regularly tours many European and Western countries. Recently, the entire Georgian community was stunned by the sad news - the ideological inspirer and founder of the puppet theater, Maestro Gabriadze, passed away from old age on June 6, 2021. The founder is gone, but the theater will continue to live and glorify his name.
Depending on the show, ticket prices range from 10 to 30 lari per seat. Performances are conducted in both the local language and Russian. For foreign tourists, there is accompanying English subtitles.
The establishment is located in "Old Tbilisi" next to the Anchiskhati Church. Don't forget to visit it after the performance!
Georgian Opera and Ballet Theater named after Paliashvili
The Georgian Opera and Ballet Theater named after Paliashvili is the largest Georgian theater, founded in 1851 and located on Rustaveli Avenue. Many experts of that time noted that the theater's architecture was on par with its European competitors. In 1874, the building was destroyed during a severe fire. Everything burned down - from the decorations and props to the construction itself. However, the building was soon rebuilt, and the work resumed. In addition, the Georgian government declared it a national center of musical culture. The name of Zakaria Paliashvili (an outstanding Georgian composer) was given in 1937.
Due to the difficult global situation caused by the pandemic, the number of regular performances has been somewhat reduced. However, it is still possible to visit it with a mask. You can find out about the schedule on the theater's official website. It is difficult to name an average price range, as the cost of a ticket depends directly on the particular performance.
Georgian National Museum
It's not just one building, but a whole network distributed throughout Georgia. The main branch can be found in Tbilisi, located on Rustaveli Avenue. It was founded in 2004 and houses various works of world and national art, as well as archaeological relics. Here are the ticket prices:
Free admission for children up to 6 years old.
