Charitable Humanitarian Center "Abkhazeti (CHCA)"
- Description
Charity Humanitarian Center Abkhazeti (CHCA), founded in 1995, is a Georgian non-governmental, non-profit organization whose goal is to improve the living conditions of conflict-affected and other socially vulnerable people, as well as their social and economic inclusion. Located in Zugdidi, the center is a response to the needs of thousands of internally displaced people resulting from the conflict with the region of Abkhazia.
CHCA operates a wide range of programs, including education, microfinance, emergency assistance and housing support. The organization works to increase the participation of individuals and communities in building civil society and strengthening democracy, improving the social and economic conditions of internally displaced people and vulnerable groups through building their capacity and increasing self-reliance.
Driven by the principles of professionalism, equity and sustainability, CHCA is committed to long-term partnerships and transparency in its activities. Since the conflict in 2008, which caused a new wave of IDPs from the South Ossetia region, the organization has quickly provided assistance and laid the foundation for long-term reconstruction efforts.
Today, CHCA supports the development of “new” and “old” IDPs, as well as those who have returned to former conflict zones. The organization's programs serve approximately 5,000 beneficiaries annually. The organization is governed by a Board of Directors, which sets strategic goals and objectives. The Executive Director, reporting to the Board, manages operations through four divisions: Program Division, Finance Division, Procurement and Logistics Division, and Administration Division.
Nearly 85% of CHCA employees are IDPs, reflecting the principle of “IDPs serving IDPs.” The organization has improved its capabilities, developed its internal structure, and created monitoring and financial reporting systems.
CHCA operates in five regions of Georgia: Imereti region (Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo), Samegrelo region (Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha, Khobi, Senaki), Shida Kartli region (Gori, Kareli, Kaspi, Khashuri), Kvemo Kartli region (Bolnisi, Gardabani , Marneuli, Tetri Tskaro) and Tbilisi. Activities are coordinated by the head office in Tbilisi and four branches (Zugdidi, Kutaisi, Batumi and Gori).
In 2004, the CHCA microcredit program became financially independent and now operates as an independent microfinance organization, Crystal, fighting poverty and promoting business development throughout Georgia.
