The first mention of theatrical activity in Zugdidi dates back to the second half of the 19th century, when Anton Furtseladze staged Moliere’s first play “Doctor-Dragon” on April 11, 1869. Этот грузинский театр в Зугдиди — место с богатой историей. Здесь проходят спектакли аж с конца XIX века. Самый первый, по пьесе Мольера «Доктор поневоле», представили 11 апреля 1869 года, его организовал Антон Пурцеладзе. В 1907-1908 годах здесь появилось драматическое сообщество социал-демократической партии, известное как «Мушури Драмцре». В него вошло 125 любителей сцены. С 1915 года члены кружка устраивают литературные вечера, где полным ходом идут постановки.
