- Description
The David-Gareji monastery complex is an ensemble of ancient Georgian cave monasteries, located 60 km southeast of Tbilisi, on the border with Azerbaijan. The complex includes many monasteries, among which the main one is the Lavra of David. Founded in the 6th century, this religious center is an important monument of Georgian culture and history.
Located away from the main tourist routes, the David-Gareji complex amazes with its fantastic landscapes. Unique views, both around the monastery itself and at the entrances to it, make this place especially attractive for nature and history lovers. The best time to visit is in the morning between 10-12 or in the evening towards sunset, when sunlight creates ideal conditions for photography.
Previously, the road to the complex was difficult to pass, but now it has been improved, allowing access to the monastery with greater ease. Entrance to the site is free and car parking is available, making the trip more convenient. You can come here both on weekdays and on weekends, but on weekday evenings it is especially quiet and uncrowded, which allows you to fully enjoy the tranquility and grandeur of the ancient complex.
