  • Description

The abandoned sanatorium "Gelati" in Tskaltubo is a historical building built for 225 beds between 1953 and 1964. Initially, the sanatorium was conceived as an additional building for the Metallurg sanatorium, but since 1981 it has functioned as a children's sanatorium, providing treatment and recreation for mothers with children. This unique building interests visitors due to its architecture, which combines elements of Stalinist and Khrushchev styles. Unlike most sanatoriums of those years, Gelati was built in the shape of a ring with two courtyards.

For many years, the Gelati sanatorium was managed by various government departments until it was finally abandoned. Today this place is of interest to architectural researchers, history buffs and urbanists, as well as photographers and tourists interested in industrial and abandoned locations.

A visit to the abandoned sanatorium "Gelati" can become part of an excursion route to the resort town of Tskhaltubo, famous for its mineral springs and numerous sanatoriums from the Soviet era. Studying this object allows you to touch the history and appreciate the architectural heritage of the era when Tskhaltubo was a popular place for recreation and treatment.
